Dear Human Resource Manager:

Are you looking for a detail-oriented, articulate and well-educated team player to develop and showcase e-learning solutions for your organization? Would you like an infusion of creative energy, fueled by entrepreneurial intuition, but tempered by a well-rounded understanding of contemporary learning theory? I offer you all of this and more. I am a dedicated, experienced and currently employed instructional design technologist about to graduate with a Master of Education degree in Curriculum and Instruction, specializing in Technology Studies in Education. I'm looking to continue my present line of work in technology-enhanced course design, development, support and evaluation with an organization in need of a young but devout professional who has demonstrated considerable talent in a promising career.

In cooperation with professors, their students, our instructional design and support teams, network administrators and our Office of Educational Technology, I research, develop, support and provide instruction and solutions to make technology-enhanced learning an effective and rewarding experience. In addition to having co-developed and co-instructed a graduate-level seminar for online Ed.M. candidates, I have worked closely with several instructors to bring their own courses online, and to enhance the usability and aesthetic qualities of Web interfaces, multimedia presentations, conferencing technologies, and hybrid CD-ROM-based instructional materials.

With my nine years of teaching experience from elementary school to graduate/professional levels, and having developed a number of workshops on diverse topics from Computer-Assisted Language Learning (CALL) to teacher training and instruction in Web page design, I enjoy delivering quality presentations for groups of any size, in person or online. My entrepreneurial streak led me to create, market and sell hundreds of my own CALL CD-ROM at regional and national workshops in Japan. I’m ready to put that kind of initiative to work for you.

Proficient in a wide variety of courseware solutions and software for office productivity, online communications, graphics editing and video production, I am currently rounding out my technological skill with formal training in project management and the evaluation and assessment of learning technologies. The projects I am currently involved in include supporting and conducting a formal needs assessment and evaluation of online communication technologies; html template design; face-to-face and online student orientation planning; storyboarding and development of Web- and CD-ROM-based instructional materials; and video production on the topic of networking systems.

I look forward to the opportunity to convince you that I belong on your team. Please do not hesitate to contact me for an interview, as I am eager to work together for our mutual success.

Sincerely yours,

James Bertelsen
