Welcome to EDPSY 389, Evaluation and Assessment in Learning
Technologies!!!
I am very excited (and a little nervous) to be teaching
my first online course. In the past, when I have taught this
as a face-to-face course, there has been a lot of student-professor
and student-student interaction. I hope we can create that
in an online context.
During the course, you will learn how to conduct, report
and evaluate an evaluation of a learning technology. A major
piece of the course is the project, where you will actually
plan, conduct, report on, and meta-evaluate your own evaluation.
Start thinking now about what project you may want to undertake.
You can work with a group if you like, but the scope of the
project should be larger than an individual project and each
individual's responsibility should be clearly defined.
There is a lot of reading during the first 8 weeks of the
course, then it slacks off as you will need more time to conduct
your evaluation. If you want to get a head start on the readings,
begin with Chapters 1-11 in the Worthen, Sanders and Fitzpatrick
book and read through the Program Evaluation Standards.
In early January, we plan to send you a CD containing the
PowerPoint and video sections of the course. During the first
week of class, Merrill Chandler and I will poll you to establish
the most convenient time for online office hours.
In the meantime, have a happy holiday season, rest up, and
contact me if you have any questions or concerns. I typically
check my email very early each morning.
Take care,
Lizanne
